Wooly Thyme is a dense herbaceous evergreen perennial with a ground-hugging habit of growth. It is often found on rockeries as it is more decorative than culinary. Woolly thyme is not really grown as a culinary variety but is an excellent herb for brightening up a herb garden as edging or as a feature plant, it is extensively used as a path thyme between flag stones and within turf. Drought resistant/drought tolerant plant (xeric). An ideal crack filler between flagstone and pavers. Being a native of the Mediterranean it needs a place in full sun. Thymus pseudolanuginosus (Woolly Thyme) is a superb low care groundcover thyme with fuzzy gray foliage and vigorous spreading stems that root as they spread across the soil. Thyme likes a well-drained light soil, and it should not be too rich in nutrients as this will only encourage the plant to grow 'leggy' and lose its compact shape, also ensure that the plant is cut back after flowering again to help maintain shape. ![]() It will produce pink flowers in summer but it is the woolly leaves that are the reason for growing this variety. Try planting between pavers so when walked on or brushed past it will release its scent. Woolly Thyme as the name suggests has hairy leaves and reaches a height of 5cm the grey-green woolly leaves form an evergreen mat so it is suitable for planting in the rock garden, herb garden or the front of a border it will also make a very good container plant as it has a natural trailing habit.
